HAMISH STUART
BIOGRAPHY

Born in Grasgow, Scotland, Hamish Stuart shot to fame in the 1970's as the FALSETTO VOICE of THE AVERAGE WHITE BAND, his distinctive songwriting and guitar style paving the way for the band's worldwide success.

When the AWB split in 1982, Hamish went on to tour and record with an array of soul stars including Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin, George Benson and Chaka Khan, for whom he wrote the No.1 chart hit "WHACHA GONNA DO FOR ME ?" .
In 1986 David Sanborn invited Hamish to record with him and they released the live album "STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART" on which Hamish sang Al Green's "LOVE AND HAPPINESS" now a Hamish Stuart band standard.
The following year he was back in the studio this time teaming up with former and drummer Steve Ferrone and together they recorded THE "EASY PIECES" album.

In 1988 Paul McCartney asked Hamish to join his band and he went on to tour and record with the Legendary Beatle for six years, clocking up 2 studio and 3 live albums in the process before embarking on his solo project.

Since then Hamish has been working on new material of his own with his newly formed band "The Hamish Stuart Band" but still he finds time to work on projects such as Quincy Jones' celebration 64th birthday event in Switzerland last year and most recently accepting Bonnie Raitt's invitation to duet with her on-stage at her end of tour show in London.

The new material highlights and celebrates Hamish's inimitable vocal style and reflects both his own personality and immensely diverse interests and influences, there are haunting, romantic ballads like "CARE FOR YOU" and "SAME OLD MOON" and as you'd expect there are also taut, sophisticated slices of urban funk like "IT IS WHAT IT IS" and "MIDNIGHT RUSH".

Recently The Band have removed the roofs of various U.K. venues with their low-key 1998 club tour and a couple of week-long residencies at Ronnie Scotts, London and Birmingham.
Not too difficult a task when you have the talents of Ian Thomas on drums, Steve Pearce on bass and Jody Linscott on percussion - generating a truly ferocious groove.
Accentuated by Hamish's rhythm guitar and Andy Wallace's percussive keyboard attack, Chris 'Shake' davis and Adam Phillips both display stunning solos on saxophone and guitar.
Becoming impossible to book a seat at their monthly sell-out fixture at the 606 club in Chelsea, the fans old and new are always guaranteed a good time and often a bonus from guest friends such as Jim Mullen, Brian Auger, former AWB saxophonist Jim Mullen, Brian Auger, Molly Duncan and Bonnie Raitt, so don't go expecting a nostalgia trip but a great new band firing on all six cylinders.

バンドメンバーのSTEVE PEARCEの弾く重厚なベースに導かれる <IT IS WHAT IT IS>はハミッシュに元 LIVING IN THE BOXの RICHARD DARBYSHIRE、そして元 DUKESの片割れ、 FRANK MUSKERというソウル狂の白人3人で書かれたミディアム・ファンク。

"Sooner or later, could be today..." の出だしで始まる<I DON'T WANNA BE A ROCK>は、 元 GARAGHER & LYLEの英国人、GRAHAM LYLEとのペンによるバラード。
